How to play
A word appears with its letters shuffled. Type what you think it is and press check. Right answers add to your solved count and your streak; a wrong one resets the streak but costs nothing else. Press New word whenever you want to skip.
Tactics that work
- Pull the vowels out first. What is left is usually a recognisable consonant pattern.
- Hunt for endings. Spot -ing, -ed, -er or -ly and the rest of the word gets much smaller.
- Look for pairs. Th, ch, sh and qu almost always travel together.
- Say it aloud. Hearing the letters often beats staring at them.
Good for classrooms
It runs in any browser with nothing to install and no account to set up, which makes it a straightforward five-minute starter. The words stay age-appropriate, and the celebration on a correct answer is enough to get a quiet class competing.
If you get stuck
Take the hint, or open the unscrambler in another tab and work out what the answer must have been. Looking it up once and remembering the pattern beats staring at the same six letters for five minutes.
Common questions
How are the words chosen?
At random from a list of everyday words between four and eight letters long. Plurals are filtered out so the answers stay interesting.
What does the hint do?
It reveals the first letter. Press it again for the second, and so on. Hints do not cost you anything except pride.
Is there a timer?
No. There is a streak counter instead, which resets on a wrong guess. Play at whatever pace suits you.
Can I play with a group?
Yes — put it on a projector or a shared screen and let the room call out guesses. It works well as a five-minute lesson warm-up.
